Colorado River Senior Trip

About
In 2024 , Kramerica Gives partnered with Ellas Events to host an unforgettable senior trip to the Colorado River. The trip offered high school students a unique opportunity to connect with peers, explore the outdoors, and participate in meaningful experiences designed to build confidence and community.

For many Kramerica Gives students, the Senior Trip was filled with firsts and unforgettable moments. With 15 individuals embarking on a flight to Las Vegas, the excitement was palpable. For some, this was their inaugural plane journey, marking the beginning of an adventurous spring break.

Upon arrival, a quick journey to Boulder City set the stage for their first night, where the bright lights and sleek cars of Las Vegas left a lasting impression. After a brief dinner, students prepared their gear—tents, sleeping essentials, and handy tools—readying themselves for the adventure ahead.

The next morning, a shuttle from Desert Adventures whisked the eager group to Hoover Dam. Launching into the waters of the Colorado River, students split between kayaks and tandem canoes, many experiencing this kind of exploration for the first time. Guided by Brittney Rae and Sam Cohen, they paddled towards Gold Strike Canyon, engaging in rock climbing and exploring hot springs—a thrilling first for many.
Reaching Arizona Hot Springs, students set up a bustling tent community. As night fell, they cooked their own meals around a campfire, sharing gratitude and stories, and connecting over s'mores. It was a taste of independence and camaraderie.

The following day was filled with explorations—hot springs, cliff diving, and a peaceful solo sit-spot in nature. Evening brought more culinary creativity with a home-cooked vegetable curry and bonding activities around the campfire, culminating in a group sing-along under the stars. Inspired, half the group chose to sleep under the open sky, cherishing what they called the best sleep ever.
On their final river day, despite challenging winds, students paddled with determination, motivated by the promise of comforts awaiting in Las Vegas. A stop at Emerald Cove, a dance party on the river, and a reconnection with modern conveniences marked the journey's end. Back in Vegas, they indulged in a lavish buffet at Palms Hotel and admired the famed Bellagio Fountain Show.

Reflections from the trip echoed sentiments of growth and discovery:
-
"Expectations for camping were low and Vegas was high, but I really liked the camping part!"
-
"It was nice to take a break from my phone."
-
"I learned how to kayak."
-
"I felt safe enough to step out of my comfort zone and try new things."
-
"If I can jump off this cliff, I can do anything."
